The idyllic seaside village where Kate Winslet enjoys a quiet life in her £4m home

Kate Winslet shot to fame after her appearance on The Titanic, subsequently landing roles in award-winning films like Eternal Sunshine and The Spotless Mind.

Despite being thrown into the limelight, the actress has kept the details of her private life under wraps.

Some years ago, Winslet moved to a quiet corner of the United Kingdom where locals enjoy a slower pace of life.

West Wittering is an idyllic seaside village best known for its sweeping beaches and long swathes of grass.

The British gem is a hit with holidaymakers who travel from across the country to some of Sussex’s most unspoilt scenery.

Reports state that the Holiday actress moved to the seaside town in 2015 with her stay-at-home husband Edward Abel Smith.

They reportedly moved to the secluded property a couple of years after tying the knot in an exclusive ceremony held in New York in 2012.

The pair secured a 17th-century beachside home overlooking the sea for £3.2million. They later paid for renovations and added a swimming pool, a pool house and a garage, which increased the value of their property to £4million.

Although the interiors of the house have never been photographed, the home made a rare appearance in Winslet’s movie Blackbird in 2018.

The travel website Visit South East England, says: “Situated just three miles away from Chichester Cathedral and just over five miles away from Staunton Country Park, West Wittering is an ideal destination.”

The West Sussex village is located near the opening of the Chichester harbour and has been a family-favourite destination for years.

“The beach offers wonderful views of Chichester Harbour and the South Downs beyond the natural and unspoilt sandy beach of West Wittering,” adds the travel site.

Another local highlight is Medmerry Park, described as a haven of tranquillity nestled in the heart of a conservation area.

Visitors can enjoy scenic walks along the beach that stretches as far as the dunes of East Head, managed by the National Trust.

“You can also walk East to East Wittering beach where you’ll find a thriving high street with great places to shop, eat and drink,” according to The Great Sussex Way.

The site adds: “Whilst you are here, why not explore the other harbour villages, in the area, including Bosham, East Wittering & Bracklesham Bay, Itchenor and Fishbourne?

“The country capital of Chichester lies close by and is well worth a visit with its wealth of cultural and shopping opportunities.”

The shallow waters along the beach are perfect for swimmers, but paddleboarders and kayakers are also welcome.
