New research has revealed the top five destinations most popular with those looking for a last-minute getaway.

Traditionally popular British holiday destinations remained high on the list, which was compiled using the latest booking data from holidaycottages.co.uk.
The most in-demand spot is Somerset, but some lesser-known parts of the country also showed up in the data.
High on the list but missing out on the top five were emerging hotspots such as Lancashire, Crieff, Perth, Pembrokeshire and Gwynedd.
Many Britons are opting for last-minute holidays as 25 per cent of bookings were made within two months of going away, while two per cent were made just two weeks before.
Chief commercial officer at holidaycottages.co.uk Joby Mussell said: “As we head into the peak summer holiday period, bookings are about where we’d expect them to be at this time of year.
“However, while our data shows that traditional staycation destinations remain popular, there are indications that holidaymakers are also open to exploring some of the lesser-known areas of the UK and all it has to offer.”
Looking for more staycation inspiration? The most sustainable locations were rated based on factors like public EV chargers, renewable electricity installations, renewable energy usage, waste recycling rate, number of green spaces and bus stops in each county.
Devon was crowned the best, followed by Pembrokeshire, Cornwall, the Scottish Highlands and Dumfries & Galloway.

Not only is Devon a sustainable option, but it has beautiful scenery that offers Britons lots of ways to enjoy nature.
Travel expert Francesca Houldsworth commented: “In the south of England, Devon’s popularity as a holiday destination derives from its outstanding natural beauty, from moorlands to coastlines.
“Yet its high number of renewable energy installations (17,757), nearly 400 EV chargers and well-connected bus routes are what make this county the most eco-friendly place for holidaymakers to visit in the UK.”
